Western Union and Rain Expand Stablecard’s Reach Across the Visa Network

A stablecoin-linked payment card that started as a single product launch is now scaling across one of the world’s largest card networks.

Western Union and Rain announced an expansion of Stablecard, the combined digital USDPT wallet and Visa card product covered earlier this week on this site, deepening its reach across the Visa network. The expansion lets users hold dollar-pegged stablecoin value and spend it at any Visa-accepting merchant or ATM worldwide, broadening the card’s practical everyday usefulness.

The partnership pairs Western Union’s decades of remittance and cross-border payment infrastructure with Rain’s stablecoin card issuing technology, combining established distribution reach with newer crypto-native payment rails rather than building either capability entirely from scratch.

Bringing a stablecoin-linked card fully onto the Visa network matters practically because it means the product works virtually anywhere a normal debit card already does, without requiring merchants to adopt any new payment technology or crypto-specific infrastructure of their own.

The expansion fits into a broader pattern this year of traditional payment and remittance companies building stablecoin rails directly into existing card infrastructure, treating stablecoins as a settlement layer that plugs into payment systems people already use rather than a separate, parallel financial system.
