NEAR Surges 23% as Zcash Swap Volume Through NEAR Intents Jumps Sixfold

Somewhere behind the scenes of a routine crypto wallet swap, a piece of infrastructure most traders never think about just had its biggest week of the year. NEAR Intents, the cross-chain swap engine built on the NEAR blockchain, quietly became the plumbing of choice for people moving in and out of Zcash — and NEAR’s own token noticed.
NEAR jumped roughly 23% as Bitcoin traded above $81,000 on Monday, September 21, with the rally traced directly to a surge in Zcash (ZEC) activity flowing through NEAR Intents. The service lets a wallet swap one token for another across different blockchains without requiring the user to bridge or move funds manually first, and several consumer wallets — including ZODL and Vizor — have integrated it specifically to offer native ZEC swaps. Daily ZEC volume routed through NEAR Intents jumped sixfold within the span of a week, according to data cited in market coverage, turning the protocol into what amounts to the default on-ramp for privacy-coin demand right now.
The timing lines up with a broader run in Zcash itself, which has been one of 2026’s standout performers as renewed interest in shielded, private transactions has pulled fresh capital toward ZEC specifically. As that demand grew, traders increasingly needed a way to move into ZEC without relying on centralized exchanges — and NEAR Intents’ self-custodial, permissionless design filled that gap. NEAR Protocol’s own account has been actively promoting the integration for months, positioning the network less as a competitor to privacy coins and more as the rails that carry them.
What makes this notable beyond a single day’s price move is what it says about how infrastructure tokens can capture value from trends they don’t directly control. NEAR didn’t need a privacy narrative of its own — it needed to be the easiest path into someone else’s. If ZEC’s momentum continues, NEAR’s exposure to that flow, for better or worse, is now a visible part of its own price action.
