MoneyGram Brings Cash-to-Crypto Ramps Service to Solana

MoneyGram’s real advantage in crypto on-ramping was never technology, it was its physical footprint. That footprint is now plugged directly into Solana.

MoneyGram brought its Ramps cash-to-crypto service to Solana, making it the second supported blockchain after Stellar. Ramps enables cash deposits in more than 25 countries and cash withdrawals in over 170 countries and territories through a single API, now accessible to Solana-based wallets and applications, with Rift serving as the first integrated launch partner.

MoneyGram’s core value here is its decades-old global cash agent network, a physical reach that most crypto-native on/off-ramp providers simply cannot replicate. Connecting that network directly to Solana gives Solana-based apps genuine real-world cash utility rather than relying purely on bank transfers or card rails.

Choosing Solana as the second supported chain, after Stellar, reflects the network’s growing role as a settlement layer for payments-oriented stablecoin activity, where low fees and high throughput matter more than smart-contract complexity.

Real-world reach will still scale gradually from here, since it depends on how many local wallets beyond Rift actually integrate the Ramps API. The infrastructure is now in place, but broader impact depends on adoption by additional wallet partners over time.
