Elon Musk’s X Explores Stablecoins for Creator Payouts

X is scrapping the program that currently pays its creators, and stablecoins are reportedly on the shortlist for what replaces it.

Elon Musk’s X is exploring using stablecoins, with USDC among the options under discussion, to pay influencers and other content providers, according to people familiar with the plans. The platform hasn’t officially confirmed a token choice, a launch date, or how the system would actually work, but the timing lines up with a bigger change already announced: X’s existing Revenue Sharing program is being phased out and replaced by the Original Content Rewards Program on September 8, aimed at rewarding original ideas, reporting, expertise, and commentary rather than the older engagement-based payout model.

The pitch for stablecoins here is fairly practical rather than ideological: X has creators getting paid across dozens of countries, and stablecoin rails can settle those cross-border payouts faster and more cheaply than the traditional banking transfers a platform this size currently has to route through.

Nothing here is locked in yet, X is exploring the option, not announcing a finished product, and the new rewards program launching September 8 doesn’t guarantee stablecoins are part of it from day one. But a platform with X’s creator base even seriously discussing stablecoin payouts is a meaningful potential distribution moment for whichever token actually gets chosen.
