Circle Launches Native USDC and CCTP on OKX’s X Layer

Every new chain Circle adds native USDC to is one less place where “USDC” actually means a bridged, wrapped substitute instead of the real thing.

Circle has launched native USDC alongside its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol on OKX’s X Layer, a Layer-2 network built on Ethereum. The move extends regulated, dollar-denominated payment rails and DeFi access to X Layer’s ecosystem, and lets USDC move between X Layer and other supported chains through Circle’s own official bridging infrastructure rather than a third-party wrapped version.

The distinction between native and bridged USDC matters more than it might sound. Bridged versions rely on a separate protocol’s security assumptions and don’t always redeem cleanly for the real thing, while native USDC issued directly by Circle carries the same backing and redemption guarantees anywhere it’s deployed. CCTP support means liquidity can also move between X Layer and other CCTP-enabled chains without routing through a third-party bridge at all.

This is a fairly routine expansion in Circle’s broader strategy of getting native USDC onto as many chains as possible rather than letting bridged versions fragment liquidity and trust across the ecosystem. It’s not a headline-grabbing story on its own, but each additional native deployment is a real, incremental improvement to how reliably USDC actually functions across chains.
