Circle Confirms September 16 Mainnet Launch for Its Arc Layer-1 Blockchain

Circle spent years being just the company behind USDC. A dedicated blockchain of its own is a genuinely different kind of bet.
Circle Internet Group has confirmed September 16 as the mainnet launch date for Arc, its own Layer-1 blockchain purpose-built around stablecoin payments and regulated financial applications rather than general-purpose smart contracts. The move puts Circle in the same category as other major stablecoin issuers building their own settlement layers instead of relying entirely on existing chains like Ethereum or Solana to move their tokens.
Owning the base layer that USDC settles on gives Circle more control over transaction costs, throughput, and compliance features than issuing purely as a token on someone else’s chain ever could. It also ties Circle’s own success more directly to Arc’s adoption, a chain nobody builds on is a chain that doesn’t matter no matter how well-designed its payment rails are.
September 16 is a real date now, not a roadmap promise, which makes this one of the more concrete stablecoin infrastructure launches on the calendar. Whether developers and payment platforms actually choose to build there over more established general-purpose chains is the open question a mainnet launch alone doesn’t answer.
