BlackRock Canada Launches IBQT, a Stock-Plus-Bitcoin Fund-of-Funds ETF

Not every investor wants a standalone Bitcoin ETF sitting on its own in a portfolio. BlackRock’s newest Canadian fund is built for exactly the people who don’t.
BlackRock Canada launched the iShares Equity + Bitcoin ETF Portfolio, ticker IBQT, on the Toronto Stock Exchange, allocating 97% to global equities and 3% to Bitcoin exposure through BlackRock’s Canadian spot Bitcoin ETF, IBIT. The fund carries a 0.22% management fee and launched alongside a separate international-equity fund, XINT.
The 3% Bitcoin sleeve is not an arbitrary number, it echoes the allocation range commonly cited in institutional portfolio-construction research as a starting point for adding Bitcoin exposure without materially changing a portfolio’s overall risk profile. Wrapping that exposure inside a diversified equity fund, rather than requiring investors to separately buy a standalone Bitcoin ETF, lowers the behavioral barrier for more conservative allocators who would otherwise avoid a pure-crypto product entirely.
Canada has repeatedly served as an early proving ground for structures BlackRock later brings south, having approved spot Bitcoin ETFs years before the US did. A blended crypto-equity fund launching first in Canada fits that same pattern and is worth watching as a possible signal of what BlackRock could eventually bring to US markets.
At 0.22%, the fee is aggressively priced for a blended product combining two distinct asset classes, and will likely put pressure on other issuers experimenting with similar equity-plus-crypto wrappers to compete on cost rather than just structure.
