Israel’s Largest Crypto Broker Bits of Gold Discloses Breach of 200,000 Customers

Israel’s largest crypto broker just became the third crypto company in a single week to tell customers their personal data got out.

Bits of Gold disclosed that personal data belonging to roughly 200,000 customers was stolen after a hacker gained unauthorized access through a third-party data analytics vendor connected to its platform. The exposed data reportedly includes names, national ID numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, IP addresses, bank account details, and public wallet addresses. The breach follows closely on the heels of two other recent crypto data breaches disclosed the same week, making this the third such incident the industry has seen in just seven days.

Unlike a hot wallet exploit, this wasn’t an attack on crypto infrastructure at all, it was a breach of a third-party vendor with access to customer data, the same category of weak link that hit hardware wallet makers earlier this month. Bank account details and national ID numbers in the exposed set make this a notably richer data haul than a typical shipping-address leak, more useful for identity theft and targeted fraud than just phishing.

Three data breaches at three different crypto companies inside one week isn’t a coincidence worth ignoring. It’s a pattern pointing at the same underlying weakness across the industry: crypto platforms are only as secure as the third-party vendors they’ve quietly given customer data access to.
