BitMart to Fully Shut Down After Nine Years

Nine years after opening its doors, one of cryptos mid-tier exchanges is closing them for good, and the way it happened has raised almost as many questions as the shutdown itself.
BitMart is winding down entirely, having suspended new registrations and deposits on July 26, with all trading set to end August 26 at 01:00 UTC and full platform closure scheduled for January 31, 2027. The exchanges native token, BMX, crashed between 58% and 81% following the announcement.
The shutdown took an unusual turn when CEO Nathan Chow was fired just days before the announcement and has since said publicly that he learned of the wind-down decision the same way the general public did, raising questions about the internal governance process behind the closure that the company has not yet fully addressed.
BitMarts closure adds to a growing list of established crypto exchanges winding down operations this year, joining BitMEXs announced September shutdown covered elsewhere on this site, part of a broader consolidation trend as smaller and mid-tier exchanges struggle to compete against a shrinking group of dominant platforms with deeper liquidity and institutional backing.
Users still holding funds on BitMart face a hard deadline well ahead of the final January 2027 closure, with the trading halt on August 26 marking the practical end of the platforms usefulness for anyone who hasnt already withdrawn.
