BitMart Becomes Third Crypto Exchange to Announce Shutdown in Weeks

BitMart just became the third centralized exchange to announce closure in a matter of weeks — and its own token didn’t survive the news intact.
BitMart confirmed it is winding down after nine years in operation. Trading services stop on August 26, 2026, with the platform going fully dark on January 31, 2027. The company cited “operating conditions, market environment and future strategic direction” — language that stopped short of naming any specific failure.
The exchange’s native BMX token crashed sharply on the announcement, and users on social media have reported withdrawal delays since the news broke.
BitMart follows AscendEX and BitMEX in shutting down within weeks of each other. Simon Dedic, founder of Moonrock Capital, pointed to a structural weakness in the mid-tier exchange model: it can’t survive once the steady inflow of new users dries up.
