Bitcoin Suisse Plans to Shift Up to Half of Its Swiss Jobs Abroad in Cost-Cutting Restructuring

Bitcoin Suisse is preparing to shift as much as half of its Swiss workforce abroad, a restructuring that people familiar with the plan say could affect up to 60 of the crypto financial services firm’s 120 positions in Switzerland. The changes fall mainly on back-office, administrative, and support functions rather than the client-facing trading and custody roles the firm keeps closest to home.

The affected work is expected to move primarily to a lower-cost hub in Bratislava, Slovakia, alongside a newly planned location in Vietnam, while the company simultaneously closes an existing IT site in Copenhagen. Switzerland would remain the center of Bitcoin Suisse’s customer-facing business — trading desks, relationship management, and regulated custody — even as back-end engineering, compliance processing, and administrative work increasingly runs out of cheaper jurisdictions.

Bitcoin Suisse CEO Andrej Majcen has said cost is the primary driver of the move, telling a Swiss financial outlet that running the affected functions out of Bratislava and Vietnam would be meaningfully less expensive than keeping them in Switzerland, one of the world’s higher-cost labor markets. Majcen has also pushed back on the idea that the restructuring reflects weakness in the broader crypto market, describing it instead as part of a deliberate international expansion strategy as Bitcoin Suisse builds out a broader wealth and asset management business beyond its original crypto brokerage roots.

Note: the embedded post above is from the Swiss finance outlet that first reported Majcen’s comments on the restructuring, quoting him describing the situation for affected staff as “anything but easy”; it is in German, reflecting the domestic audience for this story.

A mandatory consultation period with affected employees remains open until September 20, after which the company is expected to finalize exactly how many roles are eliminated versus relocated or reassigned. Bitcoin Suisse, founded in 2013 and one of the longest-running regulated crypto financial firms in Switzerland, has expanded in recent years into markets including Liechtenstein, the broader EEA under MiCA licensing, and the Middle East, alongside its home Swiss operations.

The move places Bitcoin Suisse alongside a broader pattern of crypto-native financial firms consolidating back-office costs internationally even as their institutional and wealth management ambitions grow.
