Ethereum’s Glamsterdam Upgrade Enters Final Testing, Targets Triple Capacity

Ethereum’s biggest protocol overhaul since the Merge just entered its final testing phase — and it’s aiming to roughly triple the network’s capacity.
Glamsterdam — a combination of the “Amsterdam” execution-layer and “Gloas” consensus-layer upgrades — reached its final devnet stage in June 2026 and is now tracking toward Sepolia testnet activation on August 3, with mainnet deployment targeted around September 16.
Ten Ethereum Improvement Proposals ship together under this upgrade, but two do the heavy structural lifting: EIP-7732 enshrines Proposer-Builder Separation directly into the protocol, and EIP-7928 introduces Block-Level Access Lists, letting validators process unrelated transactions in parallel instead of one at a time.
Together, those changes clear a technical path toward a 200 million gas-limit floor — roughly triple the current ~60 million range — which developers say could unlock throughput equivalent to around 10,000 transactions per second under realistic conditions.
That 200 million figure is a target the upgrade makes possible, not something the fork forces immediately: validators still raise the actual gas limit gradually through standard signaling, stepping it up only as the network proves it can handle larger blocks without degrading how quickly they propagate.
