Solana Raises Block Capacity 66% as Network Tops DeFi Revenue Charts

Solana just gave itself 66% more room to breathe — and the network is already the busiest one in crypto by revenue.
On July 29, 2026, Solana’s mainnet upgrade raised the per-block compute limit from 60 million to 100 million units, a 66% increase in how much a single block can process. The change is aimed squarely at scalability and transaction throughput as usage keeps climbing.
The timing lines up with a strong run for the network: Solana closed Q2 2026 with $5.77 billion in tokenized asset volume, a quarterly record more than seven times everything the second half of 2025 produced combined. Solana-based perpetual DEXs — Jupiter, Drift, Zeta Markets — processed $183.2 billion in notional volume in the same quarter, up 42% from the prior one.
On July 18, Solana’s combined protocol fees from trading, DEX pools, MEV infrastructure, and lending briefly overtook every other blockchain tracked by DeFiLlama — the first time it’s held that spot in nearly five months.
Next up: the larger Alpenglow upgrade, aiming for near-instant (100-150ms) transaction finality — described as the biggest protocol change since Solana’s launch.
