Jupiter Launches Lend v2 on Solana, Letting Collateral Double as DEX Liquidity

DeFi users have traditionally had to choose between lending an asset for interest or providing it as liquidity for trading fees. Jupiter’s newest upgrade tries to erase that choice entirely.

Jupiter launched Lend v2 on Solana, introducing opt-in “smart collateral” features that let supplied and borrowed assets simultaneously earn trading fees as DEX liquidity while still functioning as active collateral within a lending position. The design aims to meaningfully boost capital efficiency across Solana’s DeFi lending market.

This effectively merges two previously separate DeFi primitives, money-market lending and automated-market-maker liquidity provision, into a single capital position instead of forcing users to split funds between the two yield sources or pick one over the other.

The tradeoff is added complexity: a position under smart collateral now carries both traditional lending risk, like liquidation, and the impermanent-loss and price-impact risk that comes with functioning as AMM liquidity, layered on top of each other in ways users need to understand before opting in, rather than treated as a pure efficiency upgrade with no downside.

The move fits a broader pattern of Solana’s DeFi lending market pushing toward more sophisticated, composable primitives as it matures beyond simple supply-and-borrow money markets, a trend several other lending protocols on the network have been pursuing in parallel.
